Keratoconus Care

Keratoconus - mapped and managed
THE CONDITION

Keratoconus is a condition of the cornea, the clear front wall of the eye.

The cornea becomes thinner and weaker over time – and as it changes shape – vision becomes blurred and distorted in a way glasses can’t correct well.

EARLY SIGNS
Vision that will not sharpen with a new prescription.
Glare and haloes around lights at night.
A prescription that keeps changing, particularly through the teens and twenties.
Corneal mapping at Remy

Remy uses a Pentacam to build a full three-dimensional map of the cornea. This allows keratoconus and other corneal conditions to be identified early and tracked precisely over time.

The same map makes accurate custom lens fitting possible.

MANAGEMENT AT EVERY STAGE

The approach depends on the stage. We monitor the cornea for change, fit custom contact lenses once glasses no longer give useful vision and refer for surgical assessment as needed.

Lens options include custom scleral and rigid lenses, each fitted to the shape of your own cornea rather than selected from a standard range.

Co-management with ophthalmology

Keratoconus is often managed jointly.

For treatments such as corneal cross-linking, Remy works with local ophthalmologists and stays involved in your ongoing care for the best outcomes.

Your first appointment includes corneal imaging and a full examination. You will leave understanding the map, the monitoring plan and the lens options (if required).
