Myopia Management

Short-sightedness is worth managing,
not just correcting
THE CONDITION

Myopia, or short-sightedness, is a condition in which the eye grows longer than it should, making distant objects look blurred. For many people it continues to progress over time.

Glasses and contact lenses restore clear vision. Management goes further, tracking how quickly the eye is changing and discussing the options with you.

Treatment options aim to slow the progression of myopia, and each solution is tailored to the individual patient.

THE SIGNS
Squinting to see things in the distance.
Holding screens or reading material close.
Headaches or eye strain.
A prescription that has moved noticeably between visits.
Treatment Options

There are several proven ways to help slow the progression of myopia. We’ll recommend the best option based on you or your child’s eyes, age and lifestyle.

Orthokeratology
Also called OrthoK or night lenses. These are worn overnight to gently and temporarily reshape the front of the eye, giving clear vision through the day without glasses or daytime contact lenses.

They are non-surgical and fully reversible and they are one of the treatment options used in myopia management. They also suit sport and active lifestyles.
Custom spectacle lenses
These specially designed lenses correct your vision while also helping to slow the progression of myopia, using advanced optical technology that goes beyond standard lenses.

They offer a simple, comfortable option for everyday wear, with no special care required beyond that of regular glasses.
Soft Contact lenses
Daytime contact lenses with a specialised optical design that provides clear, comfortable vision throughout the day while also helping to manage the progression of short-sightedness over time.

Many are available as daily disposables, which means no solutions, cases or cleaning routines. Each day starts with a new pair, reducing the risk of irritation and infection. We'll guide you through fitting and handling and monitor your progress at regular check-ups.
Atropine eye drops
Low-dose eye drops used once a day, usually at bedtime, to help slow the progression of myopia over time. They can be used on their own or alongside glasses or contact lenses.

Atropine is only available on prescription following a full assessment. Your child's eyes are measured at each visit, so any change is tracked and the treatment can be adjusted as needed.
A tailored plan for your eyes

Management is not set once. We review your measurements at every appointment and adjust the approach as your eyes change.

Your first appointment is a full examination with the measurements that set a baseline. You will leave understanding the findings, the options and the review interval.
