Orthokeratology, also called OrthoK or night lenses, uses a rigid lens worn overnight to reshape the front surface of the eye temporarily. Remove the lenses in the morning and see clearly through the day. The effect wears off if you stop wearing them, which is what makes it fully reversible.
OrthoK is a non-surgical, well-established method in optometry. An assessment of your corneal shape, prescription and lifestyle needs will show whether this lens design suits you.
Myopia (short-sightedness) and hyperopia (long-sightedness). Children and teenagers, where it is used as part of myopia management. Sport, swimming and active lifestyles where glasses or daytime lenses get in the way.
After 40, OrthoK can reduce reliance on reading glasses.
Every OrthoK lens at Remy is designed from a Pentacam map of your cornea rather than adjusted from a standard trial set. The shape of the lens matches the shape of your eye, which matters for both the vision result and the comfort.
Follow-up visits within the first months of wear ensure you are guided through the experience and gives us opportunities to fine-tune the outcomes.
Lenses are worn each night and cleaned each morning. Regular review continues for as long as you wear them, because the health of the cornea is checked at every visit, not just the vision.
In children, orthoK sits within a myopia management plan. Each visit records the prescription and the measurements that show how the eye is developing, so change is visible between visits.
Appointment 1: An initial assessment to confirm OrthoK is suitable for you. Your lenses are then custom made and typically arrive about a week later.
Appointment 2: Your lenses are delivered and fitted, and you’re taught how to insert, remove and care for them.
Appointment 3: A review the morning after your first night of wear.
Following appointments: Typically once a week for the next four weeks to ensure your visual aims are achieved.
